Budget constraints, which have been made worse by the recent economic downturn, are forcing fire departments across the country to scale back on buying essential equipment. But now, thanks to a $6,762 donation, our all-volunteer department has been able to purchase some much needed equipment that will strengthen our rescue efforts.
SKCG Group, Inc. and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company partnered to award the grant.
Specifically, grant funds have purchased self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) air bottles. Each SCBA, also known as an air pack, is the combination of a facemask and air bottle which is worn on a firefighter's back. The device provides a continuous flow of clean, breathable air when firefighters are in a contaminated environment with smoke, fire, or other hazardous materials. This grant has helped us obtain eight new air bottles.
The grant was made through the Heritage Programs. Under the program, agents and brokers across the country who sell Fireman's Fund® products, like SKCG Group, have the opportunity to direct grants to fire departments for lifesaving equipment, training and community education. Each year, millions of dollars are awarded to fire service organizations.
On behalf of our firefighters and Purchase residents, I want to thank SKCG Group and Fireman's Fund for their support.
